Dateline: 06/22/98

Northeast Basketmakers Guild was founded in 1985. A member's exhibit is held to display and promote the work of guild members periodically. This year the exhibit is being held at Lexington Arts and Crafts Society, Inc., 130 Waltham Street, Lexington, Massachusetts. The show is titled: Baskets, Baskets Everywhere, Our Past and Future Link. It runs from June 7 - 27, 1998.

An opening reception was held Sunday June 7, 1998. Basket demonstrations by Kenneth Smith, Dona Nazarenko, Maggie Silva and Fred Lawson and workshops taught by Bonnie Gale, Nicki Shaban, Pat Fitzpatrick, Dona Nazarenko, Joanne Wood Peters, Judy Flanders and Sosse Baker were held during the month of June in conjunction with the exhibition.

Membership to the guild is open to anyone with an interest in basketry, but the members come primarily from the northeastern United States. The show included seventy two baskets created by forty five basket artists.

The group presentation features historically pure as well as innovative basket forms in a diversity of materials and techniques.

The guild publishes a newsletter, sponsors workshops and involves members in a variety of events throughout the year. I was one of the original five members in 1985 and I encourage you to join in making the guild a vibrant growing organization. If you would like more information on becoming a member write me.
