The conference will focus on the exploration of contemporary, nontraditional basketry as object-making. This is an opportunity to interact with internationally-recognized artists in the field of contemporary craft and increase the awareness, appreciation and understanding of fine craft art. The symposium will offer a series of hands-on workshops, demonstrations, discussions and slide lectures. It is open to professional and emerging artists, collectors and the general public. The Florida Craftsmen Conference has been organized to coincide with two exhibitions. Inventions and Constructions: New Baskets being held at the Florida Craftsmen Gallery and the 47th Florida Craftsmen Statewide Exhibition. Thursday, Friday and Sunday pre- and post-conference workshops will be led by internationally-recognized visiting artist presenters in the studios of The Art Center, in downtown St. Petersburg. Other events including lectures, slide shows, panel discussions and a keynote speech will be among the offerings. Thursday Pre-Conference Workshops
