Susi Nuss has been a basketmaker since 1979.

Professional Experience: Susi's own work is primarily traditional Black Ash woodsplint basketry. Her baskets are all based solidly on 19th century New England tradition. She has taught classes in Black Ash woodsplint basketry at craft centers, basketry festivals and conferences. Her baskets have been featured in juried museum shows around the United States and in Canada. She served as Basketry Guild Liaison for The News Basket, published by Press de LaPlantz, Inc. Her work has been pictured in books such as Twill Basketry by Shereen LaPlantz, Baskets from Nature's Bounty by Elizabeth Jensen and Baskets: A Book for Makers and Collectors by Billie Ruth Sudduth.

Susi has been a featured artist numerous times in Early American Life magazine's Directory of Traditional Crafts. Her work is included in many private collections and in the permanent collection of Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, Massachusetts. She is a current member of Natural Fibers Group, Northeast Basketmakers Guild and the National Basketry Organization. She was one of the five original founders of Northeast Basketmakers Guild at its inception in 1985 and is a past president of that organization. She has been a Founding Member of the National Basketry Organization and is a 2010-2013 member of the NBO board.

Education: Susi holds a B.S. in Interior Design from the University of Connecticut, Storrs and a Certificate in Web Design from Middlesex Community College.

From Susi Nuss: "I've seen basketry workshops, events, organizations and supply sources grow tremendously. One of the best things about the basketry community is the wonderful people who are involved in it. I consider many of them my friends and I look forward to introducing them to you."
